A construction company orders branded tumblers for the crew. Two months later, the project manager asks: "Can we put the same logo on the hard hats?" That is the moment UV-DTF transfers were built for. Same artwork, same colors — applied to a surface you cannot run through a tumbler press. Peel the transfer off its backing, press it onto the hard hat for sixty seconds, done. The logo that lives on the tumbler now lives on the helmet too.
What UV-DTF Actually Is
UV-DTF stands for Ultraviolet Direct-to-Film. The process prints your design with UV-cured ink onto a clear transfer film, including a white underbase layer that lets full-color artwork show up on any surface color — including black. The result is a peel-and-stick decal that transfers cleanly to hard surfaces without heat, without water, and without special tools.
This is not a sticker. The film is thinner and conforms more closely to curved surfaces. It looks applied rather than stuck, which is part of what makes it work on branded drinkware and equipment where a bubble or raised edge would look wrong.
What Surfaces It Works On (and Where It Fails)
UV-DTF bonds well to hard plastic, metal, glass, and smooth painted surfaces. Hard hats, tumblers and coolers, laptops, helmets, equipment cases, smooth ceramic, and powder-coated metal all work reliably. The decal presses in at the molecular level of the surface coating.
Two categories where it does not work: soft-touch coatings (the rubberized matte finish on some tumblers, laptop lids, and phone cases) and heavily textured or porous surfaces. The decal needs a smooth, clean surface to bond — if the surface has deep grain, texture, or a rubbery finish, the adhesion is unreliable.
UV-DTF is hand-wash durable on drinkware. Repeated dishwasher cycles will lift the edges over time — recommend hand-wash to customers who ask.
The Gang Sheet Concept
A gang sheet is a single printed film containing multiple designs nested together. Instead of ordering each design as a separate item, you lay out your artwork — multiple logo sizes, different colorways, a mix of designs for different product applications — onto one sheet. We print the sheet and ship it. You apply each decal to its intended surface. This is the standard production model for businesses that apply transfers in-house to their own products, and it is why UV-DTF transfers are cost-effective at meaningful volume.
Bulk Pricing and Minimums
A single sheet is available for sampling — useful for testing the decal on your specific surface before committing to volume. Bulk pricing unlocks at 50 pieces, with tiers at 50, 100, and 500. Most teams order in lots of 50 or 100. If you are outfitting a crew of 30 with matching hard hat decals plus matching tumblers, a lot of 50 gives you comfortable coverage plus some extras for replacements.
Use Cases That Actually Work
Construction and trades: the crew gets branded tumblers and matching hard hat decals. Same logo, same colors, one studio, one order. Field service companies do the same with vehicle interior surfaces and equipment cases — a consistent brand presence across every truck and toolkit.
Schools and sports teams: the school logo on water bottles, lockers, and gear bags. Teams that already have our tumblers ordered extend the branding to coolers and helmet decals for game days. A sports mom ordering fan merch stickers for the whole team at 50 pieces fits comfortably into the first bulk tier.
Events and sponsorships: sponsor logos applied to cups, coolers, and booth displays at a single event. Easier than printing sponsor logos on every surface individually, and the peel-and-apply process means venue staff can put them on in minutes.
Text Size Limits
Minimum text size is 30 points. Below 30pt, the thin strokes in letters may not lift cleanly off the carrier film during transfer. This is a real constraint — if your design includes fine print, a URL, or small disclaimer text, check whether it clears the 30pt threshold before ordering.
File Formats
PNG or PDF in RGB color mode at 300 DPI or higher. Vector PDFs produce the cleanest edges. If you are submitting a raster file and the resolution is below 300 DPI, we will flag it before printing. Artwork goes through a proof review before any production starts.
